Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Holiday Mountain

Holiday Mountain
In the mood for some “heavy ass dance pop”? You’ve come to the right place. Austin-based trio Holiday Mountain soon drop their upbeat new record You Be You, and we caught up with frontwoman Laura Patiño to get the scoop on creating the record, dance moves, vibrant outfits, and dream holidays. Here’s what she had to say:

AMBY: Hey Holiday Mountain, welcome to AMBY. Please introduce yourselves to our readers.

Holiday Mountain: Wad up AMBY? Thanks for having us. This is Laura Patino, Zander Kagle, and Bradley Will and together we form the dank ass dance pop trio Holiday Mountain.

AMBY: We recently shared your single I Love You in our Quick Picks! What’s was the inspiration behind the song?

Holiday Mountain: Sometimes you end up having the most complicated relationships with the people you love most. ‘I Love You’ is about letting go of a feeling of isolation or resentment and expressing gratitude because that person gets to be a part of your journey.

AMBY: The song is taken from your forthcoming album You Be You. What’s the significance behind the album’s title?

Holiday Mountain: ‘You Be You’ is something we naturally started saying as a phrase of self empowerment. Acting as the change you want to see if the world can sometimes bring opposition and leave you standing out, and ‘You Be You’ encourages you to flaunt the things you believe in.

AMBY: The band creates “heavy ass dance pop”. Which dance move is your personal favorite?

Holiday Mountain: Brad is the wild card-you would never expect him to bust out a back bend, but BOOM there it is!

AMBY: Laura — you have an extremely vibrant look that we adore. Who inspires it? And do you feel your music has an influence on your appearance?

Holiday Mountain: Ohhh that’s so sweet thank you!! Perhaps my inner child lives in a mid 90’s Lisa Frank inspired dream world. More than anything I think the music has influenced my appearance- once I began embracing synthesizers and all things ‘electronic music’ after my years of acoustic piano, the visual element of my artistry had to get equally electrified. I’ve started making my own costumes which has been a really fun creative outlet- holographic spandex and a sewing machine are a girls’ best friend!

AMBY: Where would the band’s dream holiday take place, and which two other bands would you like to be there with you?

Holiday Mountain: Definitely an island made out of clouds and cotton candy trees and you can fly to it because you have wings. We would bring our friends Wild Child and Dan Deacon- even though we’ve only met him once at Utopiafest, we know he could bring the party vibes.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Holiday Mountain that nobody knows yet?

Holiday Mountain: We have to have a solid 3 second group hug before we perform or it’s not as good of a set!

Thank you Holiday Mountain, for giving us your answers!
