Hey there A Music Blog, Yea? and venerated readers!
We are a group called Bass Lions – Nathan, kid-brother Dan, our cousin James, and super-friend Anthony all play together in this indie-pop-experimental band.
We just came back home to Southern Ontario after touring out to the East Coast and are enjoying sleeping in our own beds again. Canada’s Eastern Seaboard is beautiful this time of year and we had an amazing adventure together in support of our new record – a self-titled affair called ‘Bass Lions’ that we are very proud of.
We made this album with frequent familial collaborator Thomas van der Zaag who also took the photo that is on the cover of our record. Thomas and our original bass player Charlie Murray have been building a large scale art installation called the Underground Space Station in Alliston, ON. This collection of white plastic pods is big enough to walk around in (it even has sleeping and observation chambers!), and its ongoing construction was a constant inspiration to us as we were writing and recording ‘Bass Lions’.
We listened to a lot of pop music while on tour this year. Dan and James spun a ton of Taylor Swift – mixing her confessional tunes in with band favorites like Aloha’s ‘Sugar’, Jimmy Eat World’s ‘Clarity’, and the new London Grammar album ‘If You Wait’.
We’re looking forward to playing more shows, and making some innovative videos to accompany the songs on our new record. Come and say hello if you ever find yourself at a Bass Lions concert – we love to meet new people.
