Hey guys and gals. You’re talking to Geoff, Chris, Ross, and Ben from The Commoners.
We’re entering our second year together, and we’re really excited to announce the release of our first EP, Streetlights for January 30th, 2015.
We started playing together on a whim. Chris came to Ross with a collection of songs, and talked about doing some recording at his studio, RHC Music. It was then that Ben, who was working with Ross at the time stepped in the group to play some keys, along with two other staff members filling in for drums and bass.
In 2014, the band took a big turn when Ben switched over to the bass, and Geoff (right out of the Humber Jazz program) stepped in to play drums. It just felt right, and the four of us have been playing together ever since.
We all come from very different backgrounds, and we all bring something unique to the table. Chris has been writing songs and performing as a solo artist since the age of 14, responsible for the majority of the songwriting in the band. Geoff has been playing professionally since the age of 17, working primarily as a jazz/big band drummer in the Toronto scene. He really brought a new bounce and feel to our music. Ben and Ross come from production backgrounds, with Ben working in various studios over the years, and Ross owning his own production company, making this record possible.
This last year has been the defining year for our band. We’ve locked down four members who are not only compatible musically, but also the best of friends. After months of hard work, we’ve finished our first record, and couldn’t be more excited about it. We hope you enjoy our music, and will continue on this journey with us. Come to our shows, and we’ll keep you guys dancing!
We’ll see you soon!
Geoff, Ben, Chris and Ross.
