After dropping their melodious and anthemic track Junk Food Forever, rock foursome The Amazons will perform at various festivals throughout the summertime. Before the excitement, A Music Blog, Yea? caught up with the group to discuss new singles, favourite junk foods, auditioning for Stars In Their Eyes, and festival season. Enjoy our interview below, and catch The Amazons at Barn on the Farm Festival 2015! For more information, please visit www.barnonthefarm.co.uk.
AMBY: Hi The Amazons, welcome to AMBY! Please introduce yourselves to our readers.
The Amazons: We’ve got Matt breaking glass with his shrieks, Elliott slappin’ the bass, Joe pummelin’ the skins, and Chris rocking that quiet lead guitarist/producer role.
AMBY: You released a rad track titled Junk Food Forever back in April, tell us a little bit about your experience creating this new song.
The Amazons: Thanks! It came like most ideas we write. Matt gives birth to the ugly purple little idea and takes it to the band and through playing it millions of times, demoing it, changing structures, loving it then hating it then loving it again it emerges as a proper song into the world.
AMBY: When rehearsing or gigging together, what are some of your favourite junk foods to snack on?
The Amazons: Carrots, caviar, and smoked salmon.
AMBY: What’s next on the music front for the band? Is there an EP or record in the works?
The Amazons: Another single in the pipeline on our own label Goth Cruise in September. Can’t give you anything more about it right now!!
AMBY: You’ll soon play Barn on the Farm and will then embark on your first UK headlining tour in October. Congrats! What do you look forward to most?
The Amazons: Festivals will be sick. We’ve only played a few but going to festivals like Reading every year was the reason we really got into music. Barn on the Farm looks like a good’n. We’re looking forward to the dude with the hat and Rhodes. The tour will be fun too. Scary thinking about it now but it’s a great feeling when people are there to see you rather than some shite shows we’ve done, where it’s packed but the crowd just can’t wait to chuck their pints around to Kaiser Chiefs or whatever’s playing at the indie disco.
AMBY: If you could curate your own festival, who would be in the line-up?
The Amazons: Tame Impala, Arctic Monkeys! We’ll get a Lazarus pit going where you can resurrect all the dead broken up bands like Led Zep, The Beatles, Pink Floyd. Sounds like our dads would love this festival so we’ll even it out with a punk stage headlined by Fucked Up with Ice Age and Eagulls and we’ll get a ‘K-Pop’ stage that Elliot can curate because the rest of us haven’t got a clue.
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about The Amazons that nobody knows yet?
The Amazons: A lot of shit really! Still early doors in this relationship so who knows where it’ll take us. Matt auditioned for ‘Stars In Their Eyes’, the kids version, as Jimmy Osmond singing ‘Long Haired Lover From Liverpool’ or whatever the song was called. The crushing disappointment of not getting through has driven him ever since, stretching his mind from the cusp of enlightenment to the fringes of insanity at times.

Thank you The Amazons, for giving us your answers!
