Drop the Game by Flume and Chet Faker has come to be one of my favourite songs recently. It is so crazy how a song can be so soulful and catchy. This Australian Dance hit has taken over my workout playlist, my morning playlist, my homework playlist, my procrastination playlist and every other playlist I could think of. It is such a rad tune that I am even considering getting the lyrics and chords tattooed across my forehead (no joke).
I can not entirely explain my infatuation with this song. One of the aspects of it that I personally love the most is the repetition. The bridge and the chorus run through my veins when I listen to it and I feel like the world is in sync.
“Hush, I said there’s more to life than rush
Not gonna leave this place with us
Drop the game is not enough”
When I was younger my parents had just immigrated to Canada and since I can remember we’ve always been rushing. Rushing to catch the bus, rushing to get to school, rushing to get to dance classes, rushing to get home and now rushing to finish high school.
“I’ve been feeling old
I’ve been feeling cold
You’re the heat that I know
Listen you are my sun”
Songs like this one remind me to take a step back and breathe. They make me realize the amazing people in my life who I love are getting older as am I. No matter how hard it may be, I have to stop hurrying to go to other places when the people that matter to me are sitting in front of me, filled with warmth.
Flume and Chet Faker’s single Drop the Game has very quickly become one of my all-time favourite songs. I would highly suggest that you listen to it, I can assure you will be just as obsessed with it as I am by the end of the track.
