Getting Cozy With: Passport to Stockholm

Passport to Stockholm

My name is Barny and I am the singer in a band called Passport to Stockholm (we’ve got a lot of love for Swedish people). It’s 5.50pm in sunny Notting Hill, London and I’m just waiting for the caffeine from my double espresso to kick in so I can tell you a little bit about who we are and what we’re up to. Why the late coffee you say? Well I am recovering from a 6am finish this morning after putting the final touches to a song that we started writing back in November last year (you can’t rush these things) that I hope you get to hear one day. It’s a game changer. But apparently I say that a lot.

So who are we? We are Barny (vocals), Tom (guitar), Mariona (cello), and Henri (percussion).  A magazine once described our sound as ‘Cello-infused pop’ – which I think is a good starting point. The band was conceived by myself and Tom who began as an acoustic duo. Tom laying down beats and melodies into a loop station with me crooning over the top. We then added cello (Mariona is our 6th cellist – we saved the best ‘til last) and then Henri on percussion. Although rooted in the acoustic genre we have electronic elements too – as part of Henri’s set up he has a drum pad loaded with samples and I also play on a mini korg synth. Something for everyone.

And what are we up to? Last Sunday we played to 5,000 people on the main stage at a festival called Sportsbeat in Gloucester, sharing the stage with the likes of De La Soul and The Fratellis. Then this week we have our ‘All At Once’ EP launch at Sebright Arms, Bethnal Green. This is the first of two EPs coming out before Christmas.

Thank you for your time, feel free to have a listen to our first single off our EP below. Hopefully our paths will cross one day.

Big love x
