Hello there, Shanee here. Writing to you on my bright orange couch in my living room. I’m in California. In Venice more specifically. And the sun is shining through the window as usual over here. I’m about to release a new EP that I’ve recorded out in Beachwood Canyon. It’s an exciting and anxious time for me. On one hand, I can’t wait to share the music that I’ve worked on in the past few months – the writing of which is a result of a tumultuous year of rediscovery and collaboration. On the other hand, I’m carefully putting the finishing touches on everything so it’s served to you just right. This is the pro and con of being an independent artist- it’s all in my hands- coming directly from me to you. I could try to tell you what this album is about or you could have a listen and decide for yourself. You might relate to something in it. What do we usually write about anyways? Love- losing yourself in it, finding yourself in it, losing it, finding it, and then having the courage to do it all over again.
I started something called The Laurel Canyon Music Revival while living in LA. It was just a way for me to get people together around live music in a living room but then it poured out into the streets and onto Fairfax Ave. I encourage everyone to do something in this vain in your community. Provide a time and a place for musicians and artists to hang out and support each others work. Invite all of your friends. Create a community and stay connected to the people around you wherever you are, and hopefully there will always be a place for music, for artists, and for life to happen.
