It’s a few years since Alex Turner’s memorable acceptance speech at the BRITS which resonated with its coda: “That rock ‘n’roll, eh? That rock’n’roll, it just won’t go away.”. We seem to go through cycles of absurd reports of the death of guitar music followed by lofty claims that such and such band are its anointed saviours. Undaunted, most bands just crack on with trying to produce their next banger.
And Dead Natives’ new single “I Got Menace” is just such a banger, a veritable slice of good time rock’n’roll driven along with a classy guitar riff and a bluesy, even a little menacing, vocal performance from Liam Dutch. With a video that showcases the bands’ live act accompanied by some kaleidoscopic visuals that hark back to a psychedelic era, there’s nevertheless a timelessness to the track that keeps a classic sound fresh for today’s audience.
Dead Natives’ are Liam Dutch on Vocals & Guitar, Robbie Ferguson on Guitar, Adam Payne on Bass, and Colin Marshall on Drums. The band seem equally at home alternating between unplugged acoustic sets and full on live shows. The band will be in the latter plugged in electric mode for a choice date in London at The Monarch in Camden on 15 November.
